Scientific Data in Context

ChemLin is concerned with isotopes and chemical substances—and with the question of how the available scientific information about them can be brought together in a meaningful way.

There is usually no shortage of data. However, the information is distributed across scientific publications, databases and evaluations, was obtained at different times and may be based on different methodological approaches. Even established sources can therefore report differing values.

ChemLin brings together selected information in consistently structured data sheets. The purpose is not only to make scientific values easier to find, but also to preserve the context in which they can be understood.

Not every data sheet contains the same range of information. Its scope depends on the subject, the current state of research and the available sources.

Editorial Work

The information is obtained from scientific sources, compared and selected for presentation in ChemLin. It is based on published measurements, experimental results and scientific evaluations.

The scientific data are not generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Automated methods may assist with technical processing and presentation; however, the selection, assessment and publication of the data are based on traceable scientific sources.

Where sources differ, the most recent publication is not necessarily the most authoritative. Relevant considerations include the reference date, the underlying measurements, the stated uncertainty and the purpose of the evaluation. Where a clear choice is neither possible nor appropriate, differing values may be presented alongside one another.

An Evolving Body of Data

Scientific data are not a collection of permanently fixed facts. New measurements may refine earlier values, evaluations may reassess the available evidence, and recommendations may change.

ChemLin is therefore continuously expanded and updated. Significant changes should not simply disappear behind the latest value. Where possible, they are documented with their date and source, making it possible to follow how a data sheet has developed over time.

Contributions and References

Researchers, authors and other users are welcome to submit scientific data, corrections, explanatory text, references to publications or other relevant information for consideration.

Submissions should include sufficient bibliographic information or other documentation to allow the source and scientific context to be verified. Submitted material is reviewed before any decision is made about its inclusion in ChemLin. Submission does not guarantee publication, and ChemLin may edit or adapt accepted material to maintain the structure and terminology of the data sheets.

ChemLin is intended for anyone seeking to find, compare or investigate scientific information about isotopes or chemical substances—whether in research and education or in technical, editorial and private contexts.

The data sheets provide structured access to the available information. They do not replace consultation of the original sources, particularly where values are used for scientific, technical or safety-related purposes.
