Rubidium-82 is a radioisotope of the chemical element rubidium, which has 45 neutrons in its atomic nucleus in addition to the element-specific 37 protons; the sum of the number of these atomic nucleus building blocks results in a mass number of 82.
The discovery of the radioactive isotope during the irradiation of ammonium bromide templates with He ions of an energy of 20 to 100 MeV was reported in 1949 [1].
